The Fortune Fish of Sungai Jernih

Sungai Jernih is a village (called as Nagari) where located about 8 kms from Bukittinggi. It is in the northern part of Nagari Baso, Agam district, West Sumatra. This place is well known with a legend of the fortune fish.
On the way to Nagari Sungai Jernih from Bukittinggi, we would drive over great canyon where located in Nagari Baso. We could climb from Nagari Baso and cross over Nagari Sungai Jernih. We would find out how beautiful this part of the world during our jurney.
Sungai Jernih means a river with the clean water. This place is well known of a folklore of "The Fortune Fish". It is about a story of children who disobey their parents. They have turned into big beautiful fish because they disobeyed their mother's message.
The name of the village also reminds people today in West Sumatra that it is important to obey our parents. Today, the people of the village come to that pond because they think it is a sacred place.

Tabuik Pariaman Carnival


Pariaman is central city of Padang Pariaman district where located about 30 kms from Padang. When you visit Pariaman, you would never forget about “sala lauak” – a kind of well know food that consist of fish.
As you may know that Minangkabau community has strong believe on Islam religion. We shall find out one of religious ceremony In Pariaman which is famous as Tabuik Piaman.
This carnival is strong related with the story of Poppet Mohammad grand sun antagonism. Tabuik carnival is carried out around Gondariah beach where is located in the center of the Pariaman city. We shall be able to see how the Tabuik would be throw out to the sea.
Tabuik Carnival is performed once a year during 1 – 10 Moharram or about 1 – 13 February.

BUKITTINGGI

Bukittinggi is one of the most famous city in West Sumatra province. It is located about 80 kms from Padang city and we could drive through Anai Waterfall and Valley for about 2 hours to Agam plateau. This town is cold enough, since it is about 950 metres on the above see level. We can see a beautiful scenery of Singgalang and Merapi as well as Tandikat mountains from this city.
In the central of Bukittinggi city, we would find out "Jam Gadang Monument" where we could overlook the market square & magnificent view of the city. It was build by the Dutch in 1827. We would see also the most famous cave in this city. This cave was build by Japanese during Japan colonisation. In addition to these interesting places, we would able to see Sianok canyon where lies outskirt of the city.
In Bukittinggi, we shall find many kind of snack. One of the most well known is Sanjai. It is a kind of chips made from cassava.
